DEMOCRATIC JUDGES SWORN IN
On New Year’s Day, 21 new Democratic judges were sworn in (in addition to the three who had been sworn in earlier to fill unexpired terms). Harris County now has 13 sitting Democratic civil district court judges (a majority of the 25 such positions in this county), eight Democratic criminal district court judges, a Democratic probate court judge, a Democratic family district court judge, and a Democratic justice on the first court of appeals. Each of the judges have individually celebrated or will celebrate their enrobing at personal “investiture ceremonies.” An “investiture” is the ceremony whereby a person is formally installed in office and clothed with the insignia or garb of that office. When the officer is a judge, the “investiture” is the occasion where the judge ceremonially dons the robe, symbolic of judicial authority. Happily, there are a large number of judicial investiture ceremonies for Democratic judges occurring throughout the month of January. The ceremonies usually occur in the ceremonial courtroom at the courthouse and typically last about 20-30 minutes. The public (and all Democrats) are cordially invited to attend these events. The investiture ceremonies presently scheduled for Democratic judges throughout the month of January are as follows:

THE TEXAS PROGRESSIVE ALLIANCE HONORS HARRIS COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY COORDINATED CAMPAIGN AS 2008 "TEXAN OF THE YEAR" The Texas Progressive Alliance recently announced that the Harris County Democratic Party Coordinated Campaign had been named its “Texan of the Year” for 2008. “Winning 27 of 34 countywide races in Texas’ most populous county didn’t happen overnight, and the Harris County Democratic Party’s Coordinated Campaign managed not only to win seats with quality candidates, but to increase Democratic voter turnout and revive the Democratic Party in Harris County,” the Alliance announcement explained. “The Harris County Democratic Party Coordinated Campaign is a shining example of what is possible with the help and support of thousands of grassroots Democrats and a well-run party infrastructure,” Texas Progressive Alliance Hair Vince Leibowitz stated in announcing the honor. “Every person who knocked on doors, made phone calls, and volunteered in Harris County should be very proud of what they accomplished in 2008,” Leibowitz continued. The Harris County Democratic Party, on behalf of its 2008 Coordinated Campaign, is very proud to have received this honor. Read the entire Progressive Alliance announcement by clicking here.
