Meeting Minutes for Saturday, March 27, 2010

Joyce Akins called the meeting to order at 10 a.m. She introduced two guests who are running in the primary on April 13--Bob Thomas for 270th Civil Court Judge and Bruce Kessler for 308th Family District Court. Everyone was urged to vote in this crucial run-off election.
Our speaker today, Dr. Richard Murray, gave an overview of the mid-term elections. Passage of the Health Care Bill has invigorated the Democrats and strengthened the President. This may give Dems a better shot at statewide offices. He feels more confident concerning Bill White's run for Governor. Dr. Murray mentioned redistricting and how vital it is. He also discussed how important it is to get out the Hispanic vote.
Joyce mentioned some ideas for future meetings. One suggestion was to have more speakers who are women and active in politics or the military. Another idea was to present a forum called "Sharpstown Dems Live" made up of club members with a moderator to present opinions on current events.
The Treasurer's report gave our balance as $602.
Our next meeting on April 24 will have Bob Hinsley speaking on the new credit card debt regulations.
The meeting adjourned at noon.
